For sale is a classic Colt AR-15 SP1, manufactured in 1978 and chambered in 5.56 NATO. This pre-ban rifle features the iconic lightweight slab-side receiver and triangle handguards, true to the early M16 design and highly desirable among collectors and AR enthusiasts. This example is in excellent condition with minimal handling or age marks, and includes a period-correct magazine and sling.
Of special note, this SP1 has NO sear block, making it one of the more sought-after configurations for those collecting or building retro ARs.
This is a pre-ban/Pre 8/1 rifle—lawfully possessed in Massachusetts when H4885 was enacted, and therefore fully compliant for transfer in MA.
Action cycles smoothly and everything functions as it should. The photos show the exact rifle you'll receive, so you can purchase with confidence. This Colt SP1 is both an outstanding shooter and an important piece of AR history.
As always, we have function tested and inspected this rifle, but have not live fired it. If you have any questions about this classic Colt SP1, don’t hesitate to reach out to Bay State Surplus!
